Today, Walton County School District hosted the Panhandle Area Educational Consortium (PAEC) Board of Director’s Meeting at the Carlene H. Anderson Training Center. At this meeting, both Superintendent Hughes and Washington County School District Superintendent, Mr. Joe Taylor, wore purple in support of military children for their strength and sacrifice.

This special recognition was established by former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger in 1986 to honor the important role children play in contributing to the strength of military families. The color purple was chosen because it symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine Corps red, and Navy blue.
